From 2 peas:

I would say take the plundge and have my own craft store, you know a nice store, not too big with a bit of everything, knitting, sewing, painting, scrapbooking you name it. I think about it often, it would be a nice place where we would have some areas for scrapbooking with tables and enough space for crops and also some lounge for knitting and doing other things, like just talk and stuff.
A store where you can go and ask for the most bizarre craft items and we would find out how to get it for you and order it if we don´t have it, and we would do our best to make you feel good and provide a good shopping experience, you know that contact with the costumer to make it feel good, like we get what he is saying and since we have a background on various crafts we would not have a problem understanding different kinds of crafters.
I would do this if I would not fail because economy is really bad and if it does it would really hurt us financially and well we can´t have that risk, I think it would be a great investment but again you never know people.
Maybe in the future I´ll do it, you never know what it might bring.

Well, I happen to believe with sadness that local scrap shops (LSS's) are on their way to extinction, except for those who have an online store that's just as promoted as the physical store. Plus, the future in LSS's to my mind is in places that provide crop space for rent and cater to crop groups (make it like a party when you're there), and also provide open crop nights as well as classes. Selling supplies? Eh, not so much, inventory costs a fortune, customers so fickle, and the manufacturers treat LSS's crummy. Does any of that appeal to you? If so, then go for it as a dream. But, if you are just dreaming of a little storefront like the old days, it will suck your money dry in no time. I could definitely see you operating a happy, inviting place for inspiration and learning, Lida!
